Pros vs. amateurs - Join the competition in our new Tournament!

posted by Maxellent,
This Autumn, all NLC squads regardless of their division will get the chance to face off against the biggest names in the league by competing in the brand new ProAm Tournament - the Aurora Open. Have you ever wondered what it is like to play against the best NLC teams while your match is being broadcasted live on Twitch? Have you ever felt like you want to compete for a trophy? Well, this is your chance! The new Aurora Open, starting on September 3 with the first qualifier, is open to all divisions of the NLC.

Prepare yourself for some great underdog stories as well as a unique and special cup atmosphere that might even hold some special surprises for top teams like Dusty, X7 Esports or JD|XL. You can watch teams from the lower divs going for the miracle run of their lives or get your own team together and try to challenge the professional teams yourself.

The format

A total of 32 teams will compete in the main stage for the last NLC trophy of the year. Starting October 5 and running until October 12, in 8 groups with 4 teams each, they will play a double round-robin with 2 teams per group advancing to the playoffs. All matches during the group stage are best-of-one.

In the playoffs, the round of sixteen and the quarterfinal are best-of-three matches, while the semifinal and final are best-of-fives. It will be the first chance in NLC history for teams below Division 1 to actually win a trophy. Playoffs will start on the 17th of October with the final taking place on Sunday, November 13.

How to qualify

Not every team will have to qualify for the Aurora Open. Teams from Divisions 1 and 2 will automatically be qualified, just like the 8 best teams from the Division 3 Summer Split.

That leaves four spots for the main stage, which will be filled by amateur teams. There will be two open qualifiers with all NLC teams that are not automatically qualified for the Aurora Open eligible to participate. The best teams from the open qualifiers will move on to the closed qualifier, which will then determine the last four participants for the Aurora Open.

Check out the dates for the qualifiers here:

Open Qualifier 13rd - 4th September 2022
Open Qualifier 2 10th - 11th September 2022
Closed Qualifier17th - 18th September 2022

Which games will be broadcasted?

We will not broadcast the qualifiers leading to the tournament. However, starting with the main stage, all Aurora Open matches will be broadcasted on our Twitch and YouTube channels. During the group stage, matches will be played simultaneously and therefore also be broadcasted simultaneously, so prepare for lots of action and a very special broadcast experience.

Signup for the Aurora Open will open soon, so stay tuned.

Updates regarding the tournament and possible changes for the Winter Split will be communicated as soon as they are final, so keep an eye open and check our website on NLC.gg or our Twitter account.
