The NLC Welcomes MNM Gaming Back to Division 1

posted by Jacob Hancox,
After a hard fought promotion/relegation bracket, two teams have confirmed their right to participate in Division 1 of the NLC in 2023. Along with Nativz, MNM Gaming have successfully defended their right to remain at the top level of northern League of Legends. These combative confections have deep roots in UK League of Legends. The organisation was founded way back in 2014. From there, they competed at events such as EPIC.LAN and Insomnia, before earning a spot in the ESL Premier League in 2016.

Fast-forward to 2020, and MNM was one of the twelve teams who took part in the first ever NLC split – Summer 2020. That split, the Marshmallows faced relegation, but survived. The relief was to be short lived, as they once again found themselves on the brink of relegation in Spring 2021. This time, they weren’t so fortunate, falling at the hands of our reigning NLC champions, Dusty.

2022 saw the return of the British organistion to division one, with MNM having claimed their spot via the 2022 Spring qualifiers. Following successive ninth place finished in Spring and Summer, MNM found themselves in NLC relegations for the third time in their history. Though they fell to Nativz in the first qualification match, MNM proved themselves to be a cut above the rest of the competition, and sunk UniQ Esports Club with a 3-0 victory in the last-chance series.

After they secured their division 1 spot, we spoke to the team’s owner, Kalvin ‘KalKal’ Chung.

What does it mean for the whole team that you managed to stay in division 1?

The team is delighted and it proves the hard work and dedication of the team. KarakalJr did a tremendous job stepping into the role of support and all the support staff did a great job filling his role coaching. It is a testament to his dedication and adaptability to his craft.

Personally I am happy because I know the skill and the level the team can play at, and to see them promoted back into Division 1 is a delight as many of the players are my friends and I want to see them grow and succeed.

Do you have a message to send to MNM’s fans?

Thank you to everyone who supported us, I know that it has been a difficult journey in the NLC for our team and community. We hope you see the dedication we gave and that despite our results, we never gave up.

Do you have any messages for the rest of Division 1?

For The Flame

Can MNM Gaming capitalise on their positive momentum and continue their winning ways in the Aurora Open. To do so, they will need to take on the likes of Spring 2022 champions X7 Esports, KAOS e-sport, and the indomitable powerhouses Cabbage Family.
