NLC 2023 Spring Split Division 2-5 Overview

posted by Jacob Hancox,
The Northern League of Legends Championship has undergone some significant changes for the spring split of the 2023 season. Here is all the information you need to know about the lower divisions, including how to sign up for the league.

Structure and Signups

First of all, teams who completed the winter split will retain their places in their relative divisions from that split. The games will be played on the live servers, and teams will be permitted to broadcast their own matches.

As for the structure of the lower divisions, the regular season will take the form of a single round robin tournament with best-of-three matches. This will be followed by the playoffs, in which six teams will fight it out in a best-of-five, double elimination bracket. The 5th and 6th seeded teams will start off in the lower bracket. Games will be played on Thursdays and Sundays starting at 19:00 CET.

For the spring split, the first regular season gameday for divisions 2-5 will be the 16th of February, and the final regular season matches (excluding tiebreakers) will take place on the 16th of March. Then, the playoffs begin on the 23rd of March, with the final round on the 16th of April.

Any teams who wish to sign up for the NLC, should follow this link. New teams will start from the lowest division.

Last Chance Qualifiers for Divisions 2-3

There will be a Last Chance Qualifier tournament for spots in division 2 and 3 in the 2023 spring split. This will be comprised of two stages – a Swiss stage followed by a bracket stage.

In the Swiss stage, 16 teams will compete over 5 rounds. The first three matches will be best-of-one, and the last two will be best-of-three. The first three matches will take place on the 30th of January, followed by one on the 2nd of February, and another on the 5th of February. Any tiebreakers will be settled using the Buchholz system based on game wins, and then accumulated lowest match times.

Of these teams, 8 will qualify for the bracket stage. They will fight it out over three rounds, all of which will be best-of-five matches. The dates for these rounds will be the 6th of February, the 9th of February, and the 12th of February.

Winning the qualifier will grant a spot in division 2, and the next best teams will be used to fill up division 3. Any teams which are not placed in division 2 or 3 will retain their prior division spot, if they had one.

Signups to participate in the Last Chance Qualifiers can be submitted here. Please note that it is allowed for teams to sign up for this at the same time as signing up for the NLC in general.
