Format
The qualifying tournaments for the Aurora Open are divided into two (2) phases - the so-called Open Qualifier and the Closed Qualifier. The Open Qualifier consists of two (2) different tournaments, each of which is played in a single elimination format. The top four (4) teams in each Open Qualifier will qualify for the Closed Qualifier. The Closed Qualifier will be played in double elimination format. The top four (4) teams will qualify for the Aurora Open.
Sign-Up
The dates for registration for the two Open Qualifiers will be announced on the website. In the last 30 minutes before the end of the registration period, all teams must confirm their participation in the check-in in order to take part in the Open Qualifier. There will be no registration for the Closed Qualifier.
Participants
All teams eligible to play according to the general rules can in principle participate in the Open Qualifier. It is not necessary for teams or individual players to have participated in an NLC season beforehand. Teams that participated in Division 3 in the previous split are excluded from participation in the Open Qualifier and will instead be invited to the Closed Qualifier or directly to the Aurora Open.
The top two (2) teams in each Division 3 group from the previous split will be invited directly to the Aurora Open. Should any team decline the invitation to the Aurora Open, one team from Division 3 from the previous split will move up. All other Division 3 teams from the previous split will be invited directly to the Closed Qualifier.
Only one (1) team per organisation may participate in the Closed Qualifier and the Aurora Open. Accordingly, teams that participated in Division 3 from the previous split and belong to an organisation that already has a team in the Closed Qualifier or Aurora Open will not be invited to the Closed Qualifier or the Aurora Open.
Therefore, if a team is unable to participate in the Aurora Open, the next best team from the same Division 3 group from the previous split will be invited.
Should a team not be able to participate in the Closed Qualifier, no further team will be invited.
If more than one team of an organisation qualifies for the Closed Qualifier through the Open Qualifier, the organisation must select one team to participate. All other teams will be replaced by the respective opponent from the final round. If the team also belongs to an organisation that already has a team in the Closed Qualifier or in the Aurora Open, no team will move up.
Composition of the teams
Up to ten (10) eligible players per team may register during the Open Qualifier registration period. No additional players can be added to the roster after the end of the registration phase. The use of stand-ins is not permitted in any phase of the Aurora Open.
Teams that qualify for the Closed Qualifier via the Open Qualifier cannot add any additional players to the roster for the Closed Qualifier.
Teams qualifying for the Aurora Open must report their roster to the Administration up to seven (7) days after the end of the Closed Qualifier.
Schedule
Match times are fixed and will be indicated on the respective tournament page. Matches can only be brought forward with the explicit agreement of both teams, but cannot be moved back.
